Community Based Policing is more than a catch phrase used by police chiefs and more than just what one or a group of officers do. It is a departmental philosophy that must encompass all aspects of the police department and community.

It has been known since the 1970’s that no police department will ever totally succeed in its mission without support, understanding, and cooperation from the community. There are many Community Policing Models available for police chiefs to emulate but L.E.S. believes in a version of the Chicago Alternative Policing Strategy or CAPS model.

It is one of the most all-encompassing methods of performing community policing at a departmental level and with the advent of problem oriented and intelligence led policing all make a total package to engage all stakeholders into making the community a better and safer place for everyone.
